Starting from Scratch: Tree planting and homegarden development in Mahaweli System "C".

Publication year:
1993

An examination using participatory tools, predominantly informal interveiws and group meetings, of people's use of trees in homegardens. The study area is one where people have been resettled in the last 2-10 years, from regions which were very differently climatically, and where a different range of tree species were available and suitable. There is an analysis of people's perceptions of their problems, as well as the level of local expertise in tree planting.

Interest groups:
Of interest to those involved at community and project level, specifically concerned with land use in resettled communities, in the South Asian context.
