This volume is one of three manuals designed to promote people-centred development through training and learning. "Community learning" is aimed at the community level and divided into two sections, participatory learning and participatory skills training. "Training development workers" is aimed at helping development extension workers learn participatory methods. "Training of trainers" is designed to help experienced development workers learn how to train others in participatory development.

Participatory Assessment and Planning (PAP) is the key approach which the FARM Programme has adopted to ground its activities in its participating countries.The PAP approach is a social intervention tool which is very specific to the FARM programme but it can be adapted to the context of other rural development initiatives.
